Instrument Calibration Solutions (ICS), a Brechbuhler Scales company, provides ISO/IEC 17025 accredited temperature and humidity calibration for thermometers, temperature probes, thermocouple and RTD calibrators, dry block calibrators, infrared thermometers, temperature baths, controllers and relative humidity meters. Calibrations are traceable to NIST and are performed in our Clayton, OH and Aliquippa, PA laboratories or by our mobile calibration lab based in Canton, OH, which comes to your facility.
Every ICS lab, including the mobile lab, can perform all of the temperature and humidity calibrations listed below.
How we calibrate temperature and humidity
We simulate thermocouple and RTD signals for generation and measurement on general purpose indicators, meters and thermometers. For thermometer probe calibration we maintain dry blocks and temperature baths covering -5 to 660 °C. For non-contact measurements we use a black body source that generates from ambient to 400 °C. Humidity calibrations use several methods of generation, including the tried and true method of humidity salts monitored by a high precision temperature and humidity measuring system.
We use Fluke, Hart, Vaisala and Mikron equipment to generate and measure, in the lab or on-site.
ICS is a Brechbuhler Scales company, so your calibration is backed by the local branch support you already know.

Temperature and humidity calibration FAQs
How often should a thermometer, temperature probe or RH meter be calibrated?
Most quality systems specify every 12 months. Probes used at high temperatures or in rapid temperature cycling can drift faster, so shorten the interval for critical measurements. Your quality system sets the final interval.
What temperature range can you calibrate?
We maintain dry blocks and temperature baths to calibrate thermometer probes between -5 and 660 °C. For non-contact measurements, our black body source generates from ambient to 400 °C.
How do you calibrate infrared thermometers?
We point the infrared thermometer at a black body source, which provides a known reference temperature from ambient to 400 °C, and compare the thermometer's reading to that reference.
What is the difference between a dry block and a temperature bath?
A dry block is a heated metal block with wells for probes and is fast and portable. A temperature bath immerses the probe in a stirred liquid, which gives a very uniform temperature and good thermal contact for probes of different shapes and sizes. We maintain both.
How do you calibrate humidity meters with salts?
A saturated salt solution in a sealed chamber holds a known relative humidity at a given temperature. For example, sodium chloride holds about 75% RH near room temperature. We monitor the chamber with a high precision temperature and humidity measuring system.
What is an oven calibration and survey?
A temperature survey measures the temperature at multiple points inside an oven or furnace to show how uniform it is and whether it holds its setpoint. Some heat-treating specifications, such as AMS 2750, require surveys at set intervals. Tell us your specification when you request service.
Can you calibrate on-site?
Yes. Our mobile calibration lab, based in Canton, OH, comes to your facility and can perform all of the temperature and humidity calibrations listed above, including oven calibrations and surveys. You can also send instruments to our Clayton, OH or Aliquippa, PA laboratory.
What does ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation mean for my audit?
ANAB accreditation means an independent body has assessed the laboratory's technical competence, equipment and measurement uncertainty. ISO 9001, AS9100 and IATF 16949 audits expect calibration that is traceable to national standards, and accredited calibration is the most direct way to show it. The ICS accreditation certificate is linked at the top of this page.
